Style Icon: Sailor Saturn (Hotaru Tomoe)

Sailor Moon would have to have been the first Japanese animation I remember watching as a child. I also remember running around playing Sailor Moon in my backyard – yes I know I am completely lame! All I wanted was to find my prince charming and have super powers and live happily ever after.

Violet-clad character, Sailor Saturn, is host of Mistress 9, creatting her to have many personalities and I suppose that’s why I choice her as my persona for this coordinate. As I feel I have a Mistress 9, 10 and 11 waiting to come out and fight the zombie apocolyse! (as they say ‘it’s not a mater of IF, but I WHEN’!)

Punk Hello Kitty! <3

Hey guys, we’ve been getting some rad feedback about our latest photoshoot and of course, the Hello Kitty x Chubby Bunny Bows we have in stock! Hello Kitty is one super-cute pussy cat- and everyone knows it! She looks great on everything invented by man!!

So how about trying a Hello Kitty x punk coodinate? It’s sassy, electrified, and super cute at the same time. M.A.C. Makeup had an awesome Hello Kitty series last year. Check out these wicked images!

Damsels in Distress!

Beautiful and wistful, the distressed princess look is sweet hime meets goth. Her once sweet gown and curly locks is in disarray, and she covers her shoulders in a deconstructed shirt of her long lost lover. And yet, there is something sophisticated in the combination of sweet frills, corsetry, exposed petticoats and tragic facial expression.

Your princess in distress can be whoever you want her to be. She could be tragically beautiful pining for her lover, or sweet girl gone bad and doesn’t need a man anymore. Or she could just be a theatrical fashionista like me! XD

Being the distressed princess allows you to work with the best of both sweet hime and goth. It allows that little girl look to mature a bit, and gives your coordinate an interesting story. Personally I enjoy both H.Naoto’s deconstructed and distressed look but feel more comfortable in sweet fashion so this look gives me an interesting space to coordinate the two. Here are some H. Naoto looks from 2008. (If you’re a fan of H. Naoto, do let us know!)

You can tease your hair up and fill it bows and wear OTT makeup, or go for the minimalist look. Pink and black looks particularly spectacular and dramatic.

Mighty Harajuku hits L.A.!

The 6% Doki Doki girls recently posted us this small update from their Los Angeles Tour! They’re looking bubbly, bright and beautiful (as usual!) and they’re even holding our specially-made Mighty Harajuku placards!

And check out their new hot pink hairstyles – even Yuka’s got mad rad hair now!

Profile: Chubby Bunny!

It’s not hard to see why so many stars LOVE Hello Kitty x Chubby Bunny bows! They just look cute on EVERYONE don’t they?

So what’s the story behind this amazing collaboration, which debuted at Hello Kitty’s big 35th anniversary bash? Meet Michelle! She’s the designer and creator of Chubby Bunny:

A native of Pittsburgh, Michelle moved to Japan and traveled throughout Asia for several years, before arriving in Los Angeles. Having written extensively on fashion both in the US and Japan, Michelle acted as an editor of the English language version of Gothic & Lolita Bible magazine. As a PR guru and event coordinating M.C. at Bubble Punch, Michelle has her hands full of bows, people, and… food.

Isn’t she just the cutest? (We love your style, girl!) Like us here at Electric Alice, Michelle wanted to keep her love for Japanese fashion and fun alive after relocating home, so Chubby Bunny accessories is the result of all that pent up energy!

Starting Chubby Bunny Accessories has been extremely rewarding, and has really shown me that I am not “talentless” after all. The concept for the bows started around spring of last year, and really came to a head during my collaboration with Sanrio for their Three Apples event in October of 2009. To my complete surprise, my red Hello Kitty bows were the best selling item of the entire 3-week event!

We love that she’s such a savvy businesswomen, and yet still lovingly handcrafts every single bow to give it that quaint, unique touch. :)

Here she is again with Miss Kitty herself and a bevy of bow-wearing babes! (Try saying that three times fast!) We can’t wait to see what designs she comes up with next!
