Harajuku Street Snaps!

There’s no non-braggy way to say this but… I’ve just come back from Japan! *_* And although I was only armed with an iPhone and decidedly below average photography skills, I did my best to scout out some cute fashion examples! I was on the look out for stylish ladies throughout my trip but the stereotype is definitely true: All of these were from Tokyo!

[Also: Our blog formatting has cut off the side of the pictures a bit, but if you click them you can see them in full. I just thought it would be better to make them 500px wide in case you want to steal them for your tumblr!]

I was lucky enough to bump into these gorgeous rose-themed Classical Lolitas after accidentally stumbling into a rose festival happening in beautiful English-themed garden, Kyu-Fukugawa-Teien. They look very serene here but they were lovely and very giggly — not to mention whipping up a photography storm with all the eager festival goers loving their outfits! I wish I had known it was on!

I also Instagrammed them (above) and you can enlarge them by clicking. (And if you’d like to see some more non-fashion related Japan goodness, please feel free to follow me on instagram @imogendall or online here!)

Saw these cute ‘n smiley girls at Shinjuku station! Not sure what they’re style is, but I love their headphones! I also especially love the girl on the left’s frilly socks paired with pink rocking-horse shoes. Socks and heels were such a trend!

This girl was a total doll! *_* I love her Hello Kitty hair ties and My Melody bag!

I bumped into this sweetheart while shopping at Marui! She had on a totally perfect pastel fairy-kei outfit, but unfortunately the lighting in there sorta killed all the colours. Also she wanted to take her photo with me afterwards so I’ve awkwardly ’shopped it in there… haha! <3

It’s unusual to find Gals in Harajuku, but I found this cutie! Check out this close-up of her amazing nails and hair below…!

OMGGGGG one of my FAVES!!! I think this girl was the most adorable thing I saw in Harajuku. She’s totally perfected the Magical Girl look that the whole EA crew is going crazy over right now! So much love!!! *_*

I really liked these simple, comfortable “natural kei” co-ordinates. This style isn’t something we cover much here at Electric Alice, but to be honest with you, it’s something I tend to wear more than I realise! It’s nice to wear florals and earthy tones to come down from the sugar-coated high of lolita pink or fairy-kei lavender!!

But mainly…. THOSE SHOES WITH THOSE SOCKS! <3 <3 <3

Socks with heels seem to work for any style!

Shiro-Loli (or ‘White Lolita’) is somewhat of an old-fashioned trend so it was cute to bump into these two fans. (This was like 9am in the morning too — what keen beans!!!) <3

It wouldn’t be a Harajuku fashion post without a token sweet lolita! She looked so cute with her matching phone and bag of sweets.

This is a flawless co-ordinate really. She just looks so chic and beautiful! Plus she’s totally on trend with her lace socks with heels, which tones in nicely with her lace skirt.

THAT HAIR!!! *_*

And finally, I bumped into two Cult Party style girls! They both had matching Muchaha-Ahcahcum cat face bags <3 and I loved their great accessories. Especially that rabbit face necklace!

Anyway, that’s it from me! Sorry for destroying your bandwidth! ^ ^;;
And as always, please feel free to send in your own snaps (of yourself or anyone who consents to you sending their fashion snap!)

Stay cute, EA girlies!

Who hasn’t heard of her? Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is the hottest girl in Harajuku right now, and she’s taking on the street scene by storm!

The 18-year-old’s fame started with a street snap in Harajuku and has sky-rocketed from there! After being snapped a few times, she became a model for Kera magazine known for her crazy, cool and colourful style. Unsurprisingly, two of her favourite brands are 6%dokidoki and Celeste Stein! Living the dream, right?

Kyary isn’t only a model but business woman and pop-star. In early 2011 she launched her own line of false eyelashes”Harajuku Doll Eyelashes by Eyemazing x Kyary”. These darling lashes are available in three styles, ‘Faerie Doll’, ‘Kitten Doll’ and ‘Round Doll’. Check out the below video of her promoting the lashes! (Japanese only)

Later in 2011 she released her very first single PONPONPON. The single and film-clip were both a massive hit, becoming viral on youtube and reaching the top of the iTunes charts in both Belgium and Finland! Her EP Moshimoshiharajuku was released last week- if you love sugary-sweet pop tunes, then check it out here! Cherrybonbon and her super cute Kyarynomarch is a hit with us!

Isn’t she adorable? It’s like a sugar-high for your eyeballs, hey?

If you haven’t seen enough, Kyary’s biography was released in Japan JUST YESTERDAY! According to the publisher of Oh! My! God! Harajuku Girl, the book will take Kyary’s fans through her early childhood, middle school years and then up through high school as she rose to fame. If you can read Japanese, get your hands on a copy ASAP!

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has become the latest face of the Harajuku street-scene, and it will be exciting to see what her next project is!

What do you think of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s style and tracks? Do you have a favourite?

Let’s talk about style prejudice

Filed under: Fairy Kei, Gyaru, Japan, Lolita — Imogen @ 2:10 pm

For weeks now friends, family and total strangers have been telling me that I have to watch that episode of Next Top Model in Japan! I was warned that I would find it offensive, and I had read loads of comments made by die-hard japanese fashion fans on forums and blogs saying that it was disrespectful and painful to watch. So I finally saw it…

… and I have to say, I don’t find it offensive in the slightest! Quite the opposite, in fact. I thought each of the girls handled themselves really well, especially when one was told told to “jump like a rabbit at some point” on the runway. I mean, even me, the all-things-cute obsessive, would have gritted my teeth at that.

The more you fall in love with Japanese fashion, the less strange it seems to you. So it’s only natural to interpret some of the girls’ laughter as insulting ignorance. But that’s forgetting how utterly foreign the situation feels to them. To put yourself in their shoes, imagine if you were suddenly on a segment of… let’s call it Next Top Miami Beach Queen… and you were given a tandoori spray tan and told to wear a gold thong-bikini with ugg boots? And your expert told you to sashay down the runway like a music video dancer? How would you react? You’d be pretty freaked out, right?

Or do you disagree entirely? Let me know!

I’m extremely interested in this topic because I’ve noticed that people who become fanatic about Japan (e.g. me!) are sometimes very quick to feel offended when other people “just don’t get it”. And then these very same people can also be protective about their interests, because they don’t want it to become so popular that it loses its unique charm. It seems like we can’t win! What do you think?

Meow Meow, Cat Cafe

Filed under: Japan, Outfit Snap — Lisa @ 11:13 am

I did a far bit of shopping while staying in Japan, but I also visited the Cat Café that Imogen made a video about when she was in Japan. For this joyous occassion I decided to wear my new Angelic Pretty Pocket Jumperskirt, AP Pink Dessert Collection Over Knee Socks and AP Blue Checkered Bow. And of course, my little ballet flats with miniature black kitties on the front!

Here are some photos of the little cuties living at Calico Cat Cafe in Shinjuku.

Cashier Kitty asleep on the job!!

I fell in love with the ginger kitty in the below picture. She was queen kitty and never moved from this top position.

Who do you think is the cutest?
